Premier Eva Aariak today released the following statement:
I would like to offer the family of Mark Kalluak my warmest congratulations on Mark’s posthumous appointment to the Order of Nunavut. Mark was a leader in Nunavut who taught by example, and always with dignity and respect.
Mark will be remembered as a language specialist, as a gifted teacher, and a master story teller, whose stories will continue to live on in our hearts and minds. The Government of Nunavut was fortunate that Mark used his talent and knowledge to give back to one of our most vital departments, education, where he worked to ensure Inuit traditional knowledge continues to play a vital role in academic curriculum.
The Order is the highest honour of Nunavut and takes precedence over all other orders, decorations or medals conferred by the Government of Nunavut.
On January 19, 2012, residents of Arviat gathered at the Mark Kalluak Community Hall to honour and remember one of its own.
The late Mark Kalluak was invested into the Order of Nunavut in a special ceremony with the Hon. Edna Elias, Commissioner of Nunavut and the Hon. Hunter Tootoo, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut.

Then, Doug will introduce them to an industry leader with the clout to buy or invest in their invention… and change their world forever.
Gyu Oh, Fine Arts faculty member with the Nunavut Teacher Education Program, has had a very successful semester. Earlier in the term her Year 3 students staged an ambitious and innovative Art Exhibit at Nunatta campus, Iqaluit. Having seen the response from the College community, our Year 1 students indicated an interest in doing the same.
I have attached pictures of some of our Year 1 students and samples of the work they produced. It included such items as: soap stone carvings; prints; print making; timelines and block carving.
We thank the students for their first steps into the Fine Arts arena and Gyu Oh for her efforts on their behalf.
