This documentary was filmed on Baffin Island in the small Inuit community of Clyde River. The film explores how the Hip Hop Program at the Ilisaqsivik Centre has had a positive impact on the lives of many local youth.

A visit from hip hop/social work group Blue Print for Life inspired the Ilisaqsivik Centre to create an ongoing hip hop program to keep the local youth inspired and involved. The program coordinators tell the audience that to be successful, youth programs must have continuous, consistent community support.

(November 28, 2011 -- Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. President Cathy Towtongie, the Honourable Eva Aariak, Premier of Nunavut and the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Federal Minister of Health today announced the release of the Nunavut Community Wellness Planning (NCWP) pilot projects. The project was undertaken in partnership between NTI, Government of Nunavut, Health Canada and six Nunavut communities. Health Canada provided $2.4 million in funding for the project through the Aboriginal Health Transition Fund.

Nunavut Teacher Education Program Instructors, Louise Flaherty and Neil Christopher, partnered with award winning animator, Daniel Gies to create their first animated film for Nunavummiut youth. This animated film is part of a larger cultural preservation initiative aimed at getting young Nunavummiut interested in the rich storytelling traditional of their Inuit ancestors.

The film is called, Amaqqut Nunaat: The Country of Wolves. During this year’s ImaginNATIVE festival, Amaqqut Nunaat was also presented with the Cynthia Lickers Sage Award for Emerging Talent and the Best Canadian Short Drama.

IQALUIT, NU (October 24, 2011) – Premier Eva Aariak today presented Louise Flaherty, of Iqaluit, with the 2011 Council of the Federation Literacy Award for Nunavut.

Piqqusilirivvik is the new Inuit Cultural Learning Facility which is being established in Clyde River with satellite programming in Baker Lake and Igloolik. It is dedicated to enabling the transfer of traditional culture, knowledge, life style, skill sets and values, taught in the Inuit language and based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit guiding principles.

The Spring 2011 issue of Witness the Arctic has been published online and is available at: http://www.arcus.org/witness-the-arctic.

The feature article is entitled "Linking Inuit Knowledge and Scientific Understanding of Environmental Change: A Case Study in Wind Observations." It highlights National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) researcher Shari Gearheard's work with Inuit hunters and Elders documenting their knowledge and observations of local changes in the climate and environment. CLYDE RIVER, Nunavut (May 4, 2011) - Piqqusilirivvik opened its doors for the first time today in Clyde River. Piqqusilirivvik is the new Inuit Cultural Learning Facility that will play a vital role in the preservation and promotion of Inuit culture, values, language and heritage for future generations.

Congratulations to graduates of the Arctic College Early Childhood Education Certificate Program in Clyde River, Nunavut! The students, who worked hard to complete their challenging eight-month program, celebrated their graduation on Friday, April 29th, 2011.
