(November 28, 2011 -- Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. President Cathy Towtongie, the Honourable Eva Aariak, Premier of Nunavut and the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Federal Minister of Health today announced the release of the Nunavut Community Wellness Planning (NCWP) pilot projects. The project was undertaken in partnership between NTI, Government of Nunavut, Health Canada and six Nunavut communities. Health Canada provided $2.4 million in funding for the project through the Aboriginal Health Transition Fund.

To shoot their educational film on Inuit fatherhood, Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada has been working with Arviat youth actors from John Arnalukjuak High School’s drama class. Jordan Konek from the Nanisiniq: Arviat History Project has been assisting Pauktuutit both as a camera operator and producer. After filming in Arviat, Jordan will accompany Pauktuutit for two days of filming in Coral Harbour and two more in Iqaluit. Student Orientation Week in Rankin Inlet began last week with a series of workshops, presentations and fun activities welcoming new and returning students to both Kivalliq Hall and the Nunavut Trades Training Centre.

On Saturday, September 3, 2011, Kivalliq Campus students celebrated student orientation week in Rankin Inlet with a scavenger hunt that saw them running from one end of the town to the other.

Nunavut Arctic College custodian Mina Adams moved from Coral Harbour to Rankin Inlet last September, while her husband Matthew is a student with the College's Pre-Apprenticeship Electrician program. She volunteers with the 3019 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps, where her son David is a Cadet. Mina wanted to volunteer and be a positive role model for her children, and to support her son and husband at the same time. Thank you Mina for being a volunteer.

We Remember: The Legendary Annie Netser

In our first We Remember article, Management Studies student Myra Netser writes about the life and times of her grandmother, the late Annie Netser, a deeply-respected elder from Coral Harbour. Annie Netser made great contributions to establishing the College's midwifery education program.
