Premier Aariak announces Career Development Practitioner Certificate Program for Nunavut

The Department of Education, working with Nunavut Arctic College and the Canadian Career Development Foundation, has developed the Career Development Practitioner Certificate Program. The announcement was made in the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut on October 28, 2011 by Nunavut Premier and Minister of Education, the Honourable Eva Aariak.

"This program has provided professional development training for numerous education staff, such as career development officers and supervisors, in an important service area," the Premier said in a statement before the Legislative Assembly. "Currently there are several career development officers preparing for the final course in the first delivery of this program."

A course on community capacity development will take place in Cambridge Bay at the end of the month.

The Career Development Practitioner Certificate Program has enhanced partnerships and collaboration. This week in Iqaluit, four representatives of the Kativik Regional Government joined Government of Nunavut staff in a “Managers as Learning Coaches” module to support staff taking this program. Courses have also been taken by staff from other organizations, such as Kakivak Association, Kivalliq Partners Development, and Kitiktmeot Economic Development Corporation.

"It is important to continue to strengthen our partnerships in the area of career development services, and I would like to thank the Department of Human Resources and Nunavut Arctic College for their supportive partnerships in this program," she said.

The Premier told MLAs providing professional development opportunities to all staff who work in the career development field will enhance their skills so they can provide the guidance Nunavummiut need to access education, learning and career development opportunities.
