Minister Curley Announces New Board of Directors for Nunavut Housing Corporation
Written by Government of Nunavut NewsIQALUIT, Nunavut (October 28, 2011) – Tagak Curley, Minister Responsible for the Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC), today announced the appointment of the corporation’s first board of directors.
“In addition to strengthening its governance structure, establishing a board of directors represents a fundamental change to the structure of the Nunavut Housing Corporation,” said Minister Curley. “Each board member brings a unique skill set to the corporation and this will ensure the NHC can adequately concentrate on the most effective way to access much needed investments to address Nunavut’s housing crisis.”
The Nunavut Housing Corporation’s first Board of Directors are:
- Mr. Eugene Lysy, Chairman of the Board, has more than 20 years of experience working in senior positions in both the private and public sectors in all three territories.
- Mr. Jack Anawak, Vice-Chairman, former MP and Interim Commissioner, has a strong national, international and Northern experience.
- Ms. Kathleen Gomes, from Iqaluit, has a solid banking and financial background.
- Ms. Vicki Aitaok, from Cambridge Bay, has a substantial background in education and community organizations.
- Mr. Bob Leonard of Arviat, has been a Nunavut construction contractor for more than 30 years.
- Mr. Gordon MacPherson, has 35 years of experience delivering the Government of Nova Scotia’s Social Housing programs.
- Mr. Ross Mrazek, has a strong understanding of Nunavut’s infrastructure challenges.
Created in 2000 through the Nunavut Legislature by the Northwest Territories Housing Corporation (Nunavut) Act, the Nunavut Housing Corporation’s mandate as a Public Agency of the Government of Nunavut (GN) is to create, coordinate and administer housing programs to provide fair access to a range of affordable housing options to families and individuals in Nunavut.
