Premier Eva Aariak today released the following statement:

I would like to offer Nellie Kusugak and the entire family of Jose Kusugak my warmest congratulations on Jose’s posthumous appointment to the Order of Nunavut.

As an educator, and as a leader, Jose communicated a powerful message on behalf of Nunavummiut, ultimately helping to create our territory, and inspiring pride in those who live here. The impact of Jose’s contributions to Nunavut will live well beyond his own life.

The Order of Nunavut is the highest honour of Nunavut and takes precedence over all other orders, decorations or medals conferred by the Government of Nunavut.
