Celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee
Written by the Government of NunavutCommissioner Edna Elias and Premier Eva Aariak today released the following statement:
“Today marks the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne. This occasion of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee is a time for Nunavummiut, and indeed all Canadians, to celebrate the contributions of our head of state and to reflect on our territory and nation's growth during her reign." Commissioner Elias said. “We are especially proud of the Queen’s visits to Nunavut and the north during her reign.”
To mark this Diamond Jubilee, special initiatives will be planned throughout 2012 to honour The Queen’s reign, her service and her dedication to this country, and to celebrate Canadian achievements of the past 60 years.
“All provincial and territorial legislatures, including our own, will raise the Queen’s personal Canadian flag from sunrise to sunset on February 6, 2012. Also, I am pleased to announce the Diamond Jubilee Medal will be awarded to 60,000 Canadians including Nunavummiut throughout 2012.” Premier Aariak said.
