Free Condoms

Written by

Protecting yourself and your partner during sex is important and is a sign of respect for yourself and your partner. Free condoms are available at Health Centres, Public Health offices and specific businesses throughout Nunavut. This is an ongoing program to promote safe sex. So far this year, thousands of condoms have been given out.

Nunavut has recorded its first case of influenza.

“People, who have the flu or flu-like symptoms, should stay home until they are symptom-free and able to return to normal activities,” says Dr. Geraldine Osborne, Nunavut’s Chief Medical Officer of Health.

Symptoms could include; fever, chills, cough, nausea, sore muscles and feeling tired. There is still time for people to be immunized. Flu shots are free and are available at Health Centres in Nunavut, and at Public Health in Iqaluit. You won’t get sick from the flu shot.

You can protect yourself against influenza by washing your hands, and washing them often. Cough and sneeze into your sleeve.

What is Smoke Screening?

Smoke Screening is a tobacco education media awareness activity for grades 6-12 in Nunavut, Northwest Territory and Yukon. Students view 13 of the best tobacco education ads from around the world and select the one they feel is most effective. Viewing the ads usually initiates great classroom discussions. This year it has two components: Smoke Screening (Ad Viewing and Voting) and Get Reel (Video Creation)

IQALUIT, Nunavut (January 20, 2012) – Students from across Nunavut, Northwest Territories and Yukon are participating in Get Reel, a video campaign to create anti-tobacco ads, as part of this year’s pan-territorial Smoke Screening initiative.

The ASIST workshop is for anyone who wants to feel more comfortable, confident and competent in helping to prevent the immediate risk of suicide. Over one million people around the world have participated in this two-day, highly interactive, practical, practice-oriented workshop. Click here to download an application form (PDF).
