Sanikiluaq Celebrates Official Opening of Paatsaali High School
Written by Government of Nunavut News ReleaseIQALUIT, NU (December 1, 2011) – Minister of Education Premier Eva Aariak today joined the residents of Sanikiluaq and special guests to celebrate the official opening of the new Paatsaali High School.
“Paatsaali High School is a spacious and modern facility that meets the needs of the students, staff and the community,” said Premier Aariak. “Advice from the community has ensured that their new school was built to support school programs based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit.”
Paatsaali High School has 12 classrooms for students from grade 7 to grade 12. It has a gymnasium with a stage and a kitchen, a multipurpose room for a variety of teaching activities, a trades area for small engine repair, metalwork and woodworking, a sewing and skin preparation room, a cold storage room and a library.
The new school was built by a Nunavut company, Almiq construction at a cost of $17, 000,000. The Government of Nunavut, Paatsaali School and the community are working together to make the school library the newest public library in Nunavut.
Following the official opening of the new school, Premier Aariak will attend the graduation ceremony for five grade 12 graduates.
