Board of Governors visit Kugluktuk

Recently the Board of Governors of Nunavut Arctic College met in Kugluktuk. The Board was holding a meeting at the Kan’nguyaq Ilihakvik Center in the community.

(November 28, 2011 -- Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. President Cathy Towtongie, the Honourable Eva Aariak, Premier of Nunavut and the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Federal Minister of Health today announced the release of the Nunavut Community Wellness Planning (NCWP) pilot projects. The project was undertaken in partnership between NTI, Government of Nunavut, Health Canada and six Nunavut communities. Health Canada provided $2.4 million in funding for the project through the Aboriginal Health Transition Fund.

This year Nakasuk School, Iqaluit, has again entered into a partnership with the Nunavut Teacher Education Program of Arctic College.

it's that time of year! Students and staff with the Nunavut Teacher Education Program kicked off the new school year registering for classes at Nunatta Campus in Iqaluit.

The Nunavut Teacher Education Program (NTEP), in partnership with the University of Regina, offers a campus and community based program prepares Nunavummiut to become classroom teachers in Nunavut schools. The emphasis is on training primary and elementary teachers, but students may choose to practice at the Junior High and High School levels. The program has a strong focus on practice, and the theory learned in courses is applied in classroom situations through observation and teaching.

Students, their families and friends celebrated yesterday as 22 graduates took to the stage for Nunavut Arctic College's Kitikmeot Campus graduation ceremonies at the Luke Novoligak Community Hall.
