During a recent visit to the community of Pangnirtung, I had the opportunity to observe the Fur Design Program that was being offered at the Community Learning Centre. One of the displays was a series of exquisite masks that had been made from seal skin. I was intrigued by the beauty, expertise and creativity.

In the attached picture, left to right, are: Geela Evic (Student) and Marlene Angnakak (Adult Educator). The centre mask, second from the bottom, was designed by Geela.

I congratulate Cindy Cowan (Director of Academic Studies) and Dan Page (Coordinator of Community Programs) for their encouragement and endorsement of such creative initiatives that enrich Education. It is good to see Nunavut Arctic College serve as a conduit for preserving and promoting the cultural dynamic of Nunavut.
