Iqaluit, Nunavut, January 17, 2012—The Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health, the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency and Member of Parliament for Nunavut, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, today announced that the Nunavut Fisheries Training Consortium will receive support to help Inuit in Nunavut find good jobs.

Arviat, Nunavut (December 9, 2011) – The community of Arviat celebrated the completion of the first Arviat Diamond Driller’s Training (ADDT) Program. 11 students from Arviat completed the 10-week training program, which included the delivery of classroom-based modules and hands-on training on an operating surface diamond drilling rig.

Arviat, Nunavut (September 26, 2011) - Mayor Bob Leonard today announced the beginning of the first Arviat Diamond Driller’s Training (ADDT) Program. 12 students from Arviat began the classroom portion of their training on the 26th. Hands-on training sessions will also be offered, which will see the trainees help operate a functioning diamond drill. The 10-week training program will run until the beginning of December.

Arviat, Nunavut (July 25, 2011) - Arviat Mayor Bob Leonard today announced approval of the Arviat Diamond Driller’s Training (ADDT) Program. This 10-week program will be offered to 12 Arviat students beginning in September of 2011. A second course is scheduled for January 2012 and will be open to residents of other Kivalliq communities.

July 18, 2011 – Iqaluit, Nunavut. First Air’s inaugural Airline Foundations Program comes to an end on Wednesday after nine days of classroom study. Fourteen students from across Nunavut will successfully complete the program which took place at Nunavut Arctic College Nunatta Residence.

This 32 week course is being offered in the following communities in Nunavut for the 2011/12 academic year:

  • Arctic Bay
  • Cambridge Bay
  • Iqaluit
  • Rankin Inlet

Graduates of this program will be prepared to successfully challenge the Department of Education’s Trades Entrance Exam that is required to enter into an apprenticeship.

The Pre-Apprenticeship 32 week (8 Months) courses are being offered in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut for the 2011/12 academic year.
