Pond Inlet honours 10 new college graduates!

Elders, family, friends and residents joined instructors Karen Nutarak and Shelly Elverum for a special celebration of 10 graduating students receiving their Certificates in Office Administration.

Nunavut Arctic College would like to congratulate graduates Donna P. Kublu, Amy Pitseolak, Leah Kippomee, Martha Suqslak, Mialia Tikivik, Jerold Koonark, Timothy Akoomalik, Marc Nutarak, Jennifer Kautainuk and Debbie Nutarak.

“The students accomplished a great deal this year,” said Adult Educator and principal instructor Karen Nutarak. “They learned about professionalism in the office, proper communications styles and procedures and improved math and financial management skills, The students had a lot of fun too, and so did I.”

Office Administration is an ideal program for those who would like to embark on a career in office management. The Diploma in Office Administration leads to careers as Executive Secretaries, administrative assistants in the public and private sectors.

Instructor Karen Nutarak is excited to see the program continuing in the community. “It was a great year and we’re all looking forward to starting the diploma and learning about bookkeeping and accounting next fall,” she said.

All 10 graduating students plan to continue in the Office Administration Diploma Program in order to pursue management careers with the government and the private sector. The College is hoping to offer the second-year of the program in Pond Inlet this fall where there is potential employment at Baffinland, the Government of Nunavut and local businesses.
