Arviat youth exploring arts with Beethoven, Mozart and electric guitars …

Arviat musician Jamie Okatsiak plays Beethoven's Flight of the Bumblebee on an electric guitar last week. Arviat residents will be able to watch his performances as part of the community's youth-driven educational programming. Photo courtesy of Eric Anoee, Jr.

Arviat youth Jamie Okatsiak left listeners in awe last week as he played Beethoven's Flight of the Bumblebee and Mozart's Turkish Waltz with an electric guitar in the John Arnalukjuak High School music room.

The talented young Inuk musician was helping Arviat Film Society students to test out new audio and recording equipment that were graciously donated to the community by Australian supporter Bob Carveth.

Arviat residents will be able to watch Jamie's performance on Arviat TV locally on channel six in the near future! And if you can't watch the broadcast, don't worry! They'll have it up on Youtube soon as well.

Thanks to Jamie Okatsiak, Innosar Issakiark, Curtis Konek, Gord Billard and Eric Anoee, Jr. for a great jam session. Our thanks also go out to Arctic Co-Operatives and the Padlei Co-Op for supporting local educational and artistic youth programming!

We'd also like to thank "Uncle Bob" Carveth, for once again supporting Arviat's youth to explore digital skills development and new media training.
