The Latest Arctic College News

Herschel Island is a remarkable place. For hundreds of years, it sustained aboriginal people who lived off the sea, and its shelter provided a base for the western Arctic whaling fleet in the 1890s. It was named by John Franklin during a voyage to establish sovereignty over arctic North America, and it was the location of the first police detachment in the Canadian Arctic.

The Nunavut Arctic College Jewellery and Metalwork Program annual year-end art exhibition will open Sunday May 26, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Nunatta Sunakkutaangit Museum.

A reception will be held from 1-5 p.m. and the exhibition runs until June 17th.

Premier Eva Aariak is seeking nominations for the 2012 Premier’s Council of Federation Literacy Awards.

Nunavummiut are invited to nominate someone who has supported and encouraged others to develop their literacy skills – a student, community volunteer, Elder or co-worker. The nominee chosen will be recognized with an inscribed medallion and certificate presented by Premier Eva Aariak.

Deadline for nominations is June 8, 2026

Ottawa, May 23, 2026 – ACCC released today Partnering for Future Generations, Case Studies of Aboriginal Programs and Services at Canadian Colleges and Institutes. This publication showcases how colleges and institutes are serving Aboriginal Peoples and communities.

Nunavut Arctic College would like to congratulate Daisy Dyer-Eyegetok, a fourth-year NTEP student in Cambridge Bay, on being awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for her dedication and contributions to community.

Nunatta Campus celebrated graduation day with their families, friends and community in Iqaluit last week.
