The Nunavut Teacher Education Program recently had the opportunity to visit the Community of Cambridge Bay (Iqaluktuuttiaq).
(Iqaluit, Nunavut) Training in Nunavut takes a giant leap forward this month as Nunavut Arctic College launches the first of five online courses in the Municipal Training Organization’s (MTO) popular Municipal Government Program (MGP). Building on the successful pilot computer training last winter, the “Introduction to Northern Government” will be delivered online to participants across Nunavut starting November 28th. The course covers the structure, history and operations of territorial and municipal governments in Nunavut.

The Nunavut Teacher Education Program (NTEP), in partnership with the University of Regina, offers a campus and community based program preparing Nunavummiut to become classroom teachers in Nunavut schools. The program has a strong focus on practice, and the theory learned in courses is applied in classroom situations through observation and teaching.

The Department of Education, working with Nunavut Arctic College and the Canadian Career Development Foundation, has developed the Career Development Practitioner Certificate Program. The announcement was made in the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut on October 28, 2025 by Nunavut Premier and Minister of Education, the Honourable Eva Aariak.
