This academic year we have explored numerous approaches to enhancing program offerings within the Nunavut Teacher Education Program.

We believe that we must develop outreach initiatives that sensitize our training teachers to the realities of life in our school communities. In this way our graduating Teachers are well positioned to address the needs of students entrusted to our care. We require competent, capable and caring people in the profession and the classroom.

Today, our Year 3 Nunavut Teacher Education Program students are participating in the Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) program. It is being delivered at Nunatta Campus, Iqaluit, and is under the direction of Jack Hicks and his team. It is our intention to incorporate this training as a regular component of NTEP.

We thank Andrea Burry, NTEP Faculty: Educational Psychology, for her efforts in arranging this excellent educational opportunity. Additionally, we thank the ASIST Team - Jack Hicks, Tutalik Boychuck and Malaya Qaunirq Chapman for their efforts on our behalf.
